The functional features built into this model match the complexity of the aircraft it recreates. The retractable landing gear retracts fully into fuselage compartments — both main gear bogies disappear into the belly, exactly as on the real aircraft. The rear cargo hatch opens on its hinges, revealing the interior bay. The wing spoilers rotate on their hinges. The tail gunboat assembly swings. The side-mounted gun barrel on the fuselage rotates on its mount — the single detail that most immediately communicates the AC-130's combat role. The build is structured around the fuselage as the primary spine — a cylindrical section built in horizontal rings before the wings, tail and nose assemblies attach.
